Choosing the right tile for your bathroom is essential for aesthetics and functionality. In this post we will outline tips to help you make the best choice for your space!

  1. Consider Size & Layout

    1. The size and installation method of a tile can make even the smallest spaces feel bigger. We typically recommend a 24x24, 24x48 or bigger however, 12x24, mosaics and subways still have their place for certain spaces and styles. We love a stacked installation method for a more contemporary look.

  2. Prioritize Finishes

    1. Although a polished or glossy finish reflects light well and can give a luxurious look, we encourage our customers to use a matte or natural finish on the floor to avoid excessive water spots and increase slip resistance.

  3. Maintenance Matters

    1. Natural stone will require more maintenance (sealing) than a porcelain or ceramic tile so ensure you are able and willing to put in the maintenance that each requires.

  4. The Right Grout

    1. Grout can make a significant difference in the maintenance and style of tile - a matching grout offers a seamless look while a contrasting grout can offer a dramatic effect. We typically recommend a mid tone with a sealant premixed to avoid obvious staining and soap scum.

  5. Add Comfort

    1. As mentioned above, matte finishes provide more slip resistance and therefore provide additional comfort. We encourage our customers to use in-floor heating where appropriate to add warmth and comfort especially in the colder months.

  6. Don't Compromise Style

    1. There is a large variety of tile patterns and colours available, we love finding options that perfectly match our client's personalities.

  7. Set a Budget

    1. Piastrella offers various price points for any budget or project. While natural stone is more expensive, there are many porcelain options that closely mimic the look. We encourage our customers to use a mix of high and low cost options to ensure we're on budget but remain in style and practical.

The right tile can make your bathroom a stylish and functional space. By focusing on the tips above, your bathroom will be beautiful, timeless and fit your lifestyle for years to come.
